Week 5 Wrap Up

How far along? 5 Weeks

Baby is the size of an: Appleseed

Total weight gain/loss: Starting weight before I got pregnant was 198.4. Not proud of that as it was the highest I ever was, but I'm trying very hard to be real here. At the end of week 5 I am down 7lbs mainly due to starting a Whole30 Paleo challenge and starting a new workout regimen

Symptoms: No appetite, nighttime sleep issues, super tired during the day, heartburn, minor (but totally normal) cramping, was super itchy last week, a bit irritable, NO focus, the end of the week and leading into week 6 has brought super sense of smell and nausea

Wedding rings on or off? I'm pretty bloated already so I go back and forth. If I can get them on I leave them on, but I have to take them off to work out.

Belly Button in or out? In

Sleep: I have my good nights and bad nights. There's no rhyme or reason to it. Some nights I have trouble getting to sleep and others I wake up at 3AM and can't go back to sleep. Then there's those oh so treasured nights where I sleep for like 9 hours straight! I'm also taking naps every day... Sometimes multiple a day! That will change when I go back to work!
Food cravings: I could kill for a red velvet cupcake... That might just be the Whole30 paleo challenge talking. I haven't had dairy, sugar, or grains in 21 days. Hell. It's totally hell. I have been eating a lot of fruit though! Smoothies are my saving grace for breakfast when I need to eat but don't have much appetite.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Not too bad, although JD was cooking pork chops on the stove and the smell of the olive oil made me nauseous. Praying any actual sickness away!!

Miss Anything? My appetite! I'm not sick, but I'm not hungry!

Happy or Moody most of the time: Mostly happy, but definitely can get moody and whiny!

Workouts: I started working out with JD's friend and personal trainer, Billy, three weeks after my gallbladder surgery. We work out in an old metal boat maintenance shed with no AC and it's extremely reminiscent of a CrossFit type place without actually being one. Billy is all about safety and pacing yourself, which I can't say I've heard the same about CrossFit. I digress. Right away we prioritized getting my abs back in shape since they'd been all cut up from surgery. Once he feels like my core is up to par we will focus on other areas. I go to see him three days a week for about an hour. It really just depends on how long it takes me to get my sets done. I was only working out with him for a week before we found out I was pregnant, and now after having three weeks under my belt I'm pretty pleased. I think that if I can workout as much as possible throughout the pregnancy it will help me through labor and to get back in the swing of things post baby to lose the baby weight. Billy's really pushing me to make sure I'm eating enough calories and protein, which is ok now, but I worry about the coming weeks if I start to get sick.

The Bump: No bump, but that insurance screening measured me at 36"

Have you started to show yet: Not an actual bump, but I feel super bloated and puffy.

Stretch marks? No

Maternity clothes? Not technically, but kind of. I'll admit to having gained more weight this past school year than I should have, and since we didn't have the money (or I just didn't want to spend the money) to buy new clothes, most of my clothes were already a bit snug. Therefore I went ahead and bought fabric to make my own belly bands and cut up some old tank tops to make some as well. Yeah. It's embarrassing. I'm not going to lie about it, but I'm pretty disappointed with my starting weight and where it means I will end up when I'm at the peak of my preggers belly. On a happier note, I get my first Stitch Fix in a few weeks and I let them know I'd need clothes that were friendly for a growing belly.

Gender Prediction: I keep going back and forth in referring to Baby D as he or she. I had my first baby dream towards the end of the week... And it was a girl!

Any Names Picked Out Yet: Yes! We have known all four options, two boys and two girls, for years now! If you know us well then you've probably heard them. If not, then you'll have to wait! I did actually think of a new girl name this week though! It would appease both mine and JD's desires in a name, and he says that it's growing on him :)

Labor Signs: Yeah right

Movement: Yeah right.

Best moment this week:  Sharing our news with our pastor. I hope our family is understanding that I let Shannon in on the secret before we told them. I really needed/wanted someone praying for us, especially as we go into our first doctor's appointment. Also deciding on how we will announce to the world and ordering what we need :)

Looking forward to: My doctor's appointment next week. Not getting my hopes up for an ultrasound though.
